BLENDED LEARNING CURRICULUM

Studies Based Learning + Discovery Based Learning + Connection Based Learning + Active Learning + Spanish Immersion and/or Chinese Immersion

Our “Blended Learning” curriculum recognizes the interconnectedness between the physical, cognitive, social-emotional, and language brain domains of a child’s early childhood education and targets each domain’s developmental “Sensitive Period” by presenting the proper curricula at the correct time in the correct way.

By engaging students in a variety of cross-functional learning activities at the biologically correct time, in the correct way, we harness the phases of childhood brain development to achieve robust cognitive gains.

Studies Based Learning

The foundation for all great education is not answers… it’s questions. And processes of thought!

We begin each day with a study, where children create the questions the class explores, mindful always of the questions. The joy of discovery and learning are celebrated together as a process. In this way, children co-create with their teachers and classmates, a unique and fun process of learning, exploration and understanding. Respectful always that some studies may have many correct answers or opinions. Studies Based Learning is “active learning” based on constructivism.

The process creates joyful discovery and a lifelong love of learning because to a child every day is a day of self-discovery first time experiences!

Discovery Based Learning

Our “State of the Art” Learning Centers form the basis for independent exploration:

Each classroom is full of beautiful and robust, age appropriate learning centers for language, math, practical life, sensorial, and science/geography exploration. Learning centers are student initiated and teacher guided. Full of unique details and richness, our learning centers are a Bilingual Whiz Kidz International Preschool source of pride!

Language Immersion Curriculum

Spanish and/or Chinese

Our language immersion programs are offered for infant through age 5, Spanish and Chinese. Languages are learned through the immersion process, meaning children learn languages naturally through participating in games, songs, activities and social connections. We offer two language pipelines to choose from: Single Language Program or Dual Language Program. In our Single Language Program, your child can learn either Spanish or Chinese. If you choose our Dual Language Program, you child can learn both Spanish and Chinese. The Dual Language Program is only available for 5 days per week students. Our Chinese program begins December 2020.

We incorporate Lindamood Phoneme Sequencing, LIPS® Series, into our language program for toddlers through age two.

Reading Program: As children turn four, they are exposed to a formal reading program as the child shows interest. Teachers gives one on one instruction to introduce, review and analyze a book. Children get to take their book home to share with their family; to a child, this is a proud moment of life passage!

Renaissance Approach

Art and Science Behind Connection Based Learning And Prosocial Behavior Curriculum-Our Forte!

The Science of Classroom Learning
At BWK, we see learning as a social activity and value collaborative learning and community participation. For learning to be social, a human to human connection and bond must first be established. This connection creates a biochemistry that optimizes functions of our brain, enabling faster academic learning. We model the pro-social behaviors required for rewarding family, professional and community relationships. Proper connection is always established through I Love You Rituals and other methods before lessons are presented.
The New Art of Classroom Management
At BWK, We Love Mistakes. They are part of our Prosocial Behavior Curriculum. In the old way, children modified behavior to seek reward or avoid punishment, a system based on candy or time outs. We incorporate social errors into our curriculum, using the situation to model and practice prosocial behavior resulting in self-regulation. The new management methods enhance confidence and self-esteem within each child, modeling desired conflict resolution techniques that will carry into adulthood.
Active Learning: Hands On, Minds On Learning
Our Balanced Curriculum is the intentional integration of culture, academics, language acquisition, and fun activities into a daily learning process to ensure your child learns bilingual skillsets and academics. Our curriculum also includes yoga, outdoor play, music, games, dance, culture, hands-on activities and learning center exploration to balance academics. Visit us on Facebook. We also do some activities just to have fun!

BLENDED Learning: The Worm Box, When Science Teaches Nurturing

The Worm Box is a way to teach both science and nurturing through team exploration. Children from the classroom decide to visit the Worm Box learning center. They explore the worm’s habitat, what worms do, and their importance, all while learning related Spanish-Chinese vocabulary through immersion as they participate in the discovery. They gently explore the box, looking for worms and carefully holding them in their little hands to check for eyes, ears, mouths and noses. Where are the faces? It’s amazing to see the transformation, to see how children immediately enter a calm and relaxing state when exploring the earthworm box. The teacher calls attention to the children’s nurturing behavior toward this peaceful, helpful creature at which point the children see themselves as nurturers.

“Earthworm nurturer to the soil” and “Child nurturer to the planet” are simultaneously embraced as new identity concepts. For some children, this definition of self as a nurturer is crucial in helping them cope with difficult situations in their lives or future life experiences as children or adults.

The lesson is multifaceted, with cognitive, cultural, language, social-emotional and fine motor skill lessons being given through child initiated, teacher guided learning center exploration! And accomplished in Spanish and Chinese.
