Conscious Discipline

  • We have incorporated mindfulness into how we resolve conflicts between students and correct improper classroom behavior. We view such classroom events as learning opportunities to teach critical, pro-social skills required to survive and thrive in today’s 21st century democracies, complex and culturally diverse democracies of equals!

  • Bilingual Whiz Kidz Preschool uses Conscious Discipline® techniques as the basis for classroom management philosophy. Conscious Discipline® techniques, are based on honoring and establishing love bonds between humans and animals first, then participate in the situation at hand.

I love you rituals are designed to build bonds between people so that each person in the interaction feels a sense of connection. Connection with parents. Connection with teachers. Connection between children. This connection creates a biochemistry that optimizes functions of our brain and teach the pro-social behaviors require for rewarding family, professional and community relationships. (Dr. Becky Brian) It is not surprising that when analyzing who survived the Japan Tsunami in 2010, strong community relationships were more important than wealth or position. Bonded communities are resilient communities.

Our teachers utilize everyday interactions and events as opportunities to implement the conscious discipline curriculum, but will always begin the interaction by establishing connections. Conscious Discipline® addresses the adult’s emotional intelligence as well as the child’s. It is unique from other forms of guidance because it defines discipline not as something you do to children, but something you develop within them. Discipline now takes on its sophisticated definition within the classroom, “the knowledge of pro-social resolution methods and responses” vice its more traditional “cause and effect system of correction or punishment” meaning.

Please watch a moving piece on one way we at BWK establish connections within our loving classrooms. We encourage you to adopt this process to strengthen your family connections as well.
